Wallets - the handy treasure chests
A good wallet accompanies us for many years - every day. Because a wallet is much more than just a purse - in addition to coins and notes and debit and credit cards, it also contains shopping lists, health insurance cards, loyalty and bonus cards, driving licences, ID cards, sometimes photos of loved ones and much, much more. It is hardly surprising that many wallets are several centimetres thick.
However, the opposite trend has also been observed in recent years: Away from the thick wallet, towards the slim wallet, which at best offers space for a few cards and folded notes, while the coins end up in the trouser pocket. But regardless of whether it's a spacious long wallet (also known as a "waiter's wallet"), a compact midi wallet, a discreet mini wallet, a practical wallet, a simple card holder, an elegant clip case, a sturdy pouch for travelling or a children's wallet - whatever criteria you use to choose "your" wallet, it simply has to meet your own requirements. After all, you use it several times a day. And, of course, a wallet also needs to look like a personal favourite, as it will be seen again and again - materials, designs and colours play a major role here.
Our three most important considerations when buying a wallet
- Size and organisation: The "organisational task" of a wallet is certainly one of the most important points. How is the wallet organised, how many compartments does it have? Which documents do you want to keep in your wallet? Can you access them quickly, for example at the till or ticket machine? Are the documents safely stored in the wallet and cannot get lost?
- Material and design: There are various options when it comes to the material: high-quality leather, robust canvas or hard-wearing polyester. The classic leather wallet is a very durable accessory that becomes even more beautiful with time. However, the selection of wallets made from synthetic materials is growing - important for vegans, for example, or if the wallet needs to be water-repellent for outdoor activities, for example.
- Security: Security is also an important issue for many people when it comes to wallets. Modern wallets offer so-called RFID blocking ("Radio Frequency Identification"), which protects against unauthorised scanning of credit cards and ID cards. Some wallets also have concealed compartments. In general, however, every wallet suitable for everyday use should be easy to close, for example with a zip or press stud.
