For many, the Samsonite brand is synonymous with luggage and has stood for innovative and modern travelling since its foundation in 1910. The traditional company began its success story with a wooden suitcase model. Subsequently, the new ground-breaking Streamlite technology was used, with the help of which the suitcase was coated with lithographed paper, reflecting the effect of rawhide. The Samsonite became a classic in the luggage industry, not least because of its iconic shape.
In 1969, Samsonite responded to the constantly growing demand for lightweight yet robust luggage with its first suitcase made of polypropylene. In 1974, Samsonite made a further statement in terms of safe travelling comfort with wheels integrated into the frame.
The three-point locking system, which appeared in 1986 and promised additional, stable security, was followed in 1994 by the market launch of the first hard-shell suitcase with a zip. Then came the first Samsonite aluminium suitcase, which gained additional fame thanks to James Bond - the so-called "Spinner", which could be easily moved in all directions thanks to its four wheels.
